One great way to get started is to respond to requests here on r/minecraftskins. It’s one of the simplest ones out there, which is kinda nice for someone just starting out. Another decent skin editor is the Skindex editor. Love what others are saying, so I’ll just add to what they’ve already put out there: Skinseed has a questionable community and doesn’t have the best editor, but it works fine and you’ll probably be able to get by with it. I’ve used MSS (Minecraft skin studio) for about 6 years now and it works well for both newcomers and pros, but I understand that not everyone has the luxury of being able to spend money on it since it’s a paid editor. Non-iOS mobile/people who can’t afford Minecraft Skin Studio: Skinseed You could also just use a normal art program like photoshop, but if you’re interested in that I suggest looking up how to do it. I’ve heard good things about MCskin3D too, but haven’t tried it myself. I can’t say which is the best editor, but some are better than others: This next bit is a copy paste of a previous comment explaining what editors you can use. Most of the time, I use the feature for glasses, tears and earrings, but there are more situations besides that. Stick to small things that are see through or subtly making things shine until you gain confidence with the feature skin making as a whole. It’s cool, but if you use it in the wrong situations it can look kind of weird. Characters who are slender, tall, young or have a feminine build will often look really strange with the Steve model, albeit not all the time.ĥ) don’t overuse the opacity feature. Using it too much makes skins look bulky and too clutteredĤ) avoid the Steve model unless you’re doing wide characters, for example big animals, characters with armour/big suits, characters with a lot of muscle, etc. If you want to stick with people, I’d say that’s fine, but try to add variety and unusual elements to their clothing, hair, accessories, etc.ģ) don’t overuse the second layer. I’d suggest starting off with gradient-like shading then making it more complicated.Ģ) don’t completely stick to simple “teen skins”.
